Surya Technologies develops community-scale solar, storage, and microgrid projects across Northern California — from grant writing and project finance through construction and commissioning. Our in-house engineering arm, POWERFLOW, means one team takes it all the way.
We don't just design projects — we self-invest and co-finance energy infrastructure, putting our capital alongside yours.
Most developers outsource engineering. Ours is built in. POWERFLOW delivers electrical, controls, SCADA, and protection design — no handoff overhead.
From equipment procurement to permit-ready packages, we equip contractors and developers with everything needed to build.
We write the grants, engineer the system, and develop the project — a rare end-to-end capability that keeps programs funded and built.
End-to-end project development from site assessment and interconnection through construction oversight and closeout. Includes equipment procurement — solar modules, inverters, racking, battery systems, switchgear, and BOS — with spec-compliant selection, vendor relationships, and domestic content compliance for contractors and developers.
Surya has helped clients secure over $7.4M across IRA, DOE, CEC, and SGIP programs — and we stay on as your engineer after the award. We know what reviewers want because we've built what we've funded.
Technical and financial feasibility studies including load forecasting, microgrid business case analysis, and seasonal resilience modeling. As an owner-operator, we self-invest and co-finance energy infrastructure — aligning our interests directly with project success.
Precision solar system design for commercial, industrial, and community-scale projects — from feasibility through permit-ready drawings. Includes carport, rooftop, and ground-mount configurations.
We design energy systems that stay on when the grid goes down — for campuses, communities, and critical infrastructure. Includes grid architecture, DERMS integration, VPP demonstration, microgrid controller specification, SCADA integration, and protective relay coordination.
Full-scope battery energy storage system design — from chemistry selection and sizing to protection schemes, microgrid controllers, SCADA, and relay coordination. Coordinated across all electrical disciplines in-house.
Complex microgrid and electrical system startup, functional testing, and verification for contractors and developers. We also provide ongoing troubleshooting and performance analysis for operational systems — from inverter behavior to protection coordination.
Most projects start with a conversation — no RFP required.
Get In TouchFull-scope microgrid for a 120-acre Tibetan Buddhist retreat center nestled in the Sonoma County redwoods. Surya developed the project and supplied the microgrid controls equipment and a 550 kWh Kore Power NMC battery system. POWERFLOW delivered complete engineering, utility interconnection, and commissioning services. The 170 kW DC solar system is mounted on a custom steel canopy built over an entire senior residential care building — providing shade, shelter, and clean generation in one structure. The system provides seamless backup power across the entire campus and integrates an on-site 500 kVA diesel generator to operate in parallel with the solar-battery microgrid during outages — dramatically cutting fuel consumption. The project delivers $40K/yr in utility savings and substantially reduces ongoing diesel costs for the community.
Virtual Power Plant demonstration project serving a disadvantaged community in Goleta, CA. 25 residential homes each equipped with 10 kW solar and 40 kWh battery storage, communicating together as a single coordinated VPP with grid-aware DERMS orchestration.
167 kW solar PV system under a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement for a youth camp facility. Full financial modeling, engineering design, and ITC/IRA optimization — locking in clean energy at below-market rates for two decades with no upfront capital from the client.
125 kW solar + 540 kWh battery storage microgrid serving an 80-acre organic farm, nonprofit education center, and onsite residential community in West Sonoma County. System achieves 100% on-site generation with full grid independence during outages — projecting $2M+ in energy savings over 25 years.
570 kW solar farm paired with a 4.0 MWh iron-sodium battery (Inlyte Energy) at a Tier 3 High Fire Threat Zone facility in Occidental, CA. Backed by a $4.1M DOE Critical Facility Energy Resilience grant, the system will provide up to two weeks of diesel-free backup, serve as a community evacuation center, and support a Russian River Utility water pump station. Currently in development — operational 2027.
Engineering, utility interconnection, construction management, and commissioning for a solar PV + second-life EV battery microgrid at a pediatrics clinic — providing up to 6 days of backup power. Sub-Subrecipient on CEC Award EPC-19-039 under RePurpose Energy Inc., part of a $3M CEC-funded demonstration program.
Full-scope solar carport microgrid for Ceres' new $22M headquarters in Santa Rosa — the only accredited medically-tailored meal provider north of San Francisco. 345 kW solar + 1.56 MWh storage powering a 20,000 sq ft all-electric commercial kitchen and community resilience center. System cuts energy costs by 67% and carbon footprint per meal by over 80%. POWERFLOW delivered the full scope: feasibility study, load forecasting, microgrid business case, and seasonal resilience analysis — followed by $1.2M SGIP grant writing, full-discipline engineering, construction management, and commissioning.
50 kW rooftop solar paired with 60 kWh battery storage for a Sebastopol hotel — designed as a non-export system to avoid California prevailing wage requirements. POWERFLOW provided full scope: feasibility, critical load selection and isolation design, engineering, construction management, and commissioning. System delivers ~12 hours of critical backup and measurable energy cost savings for ongoing operations.
65 kW rooftop solar across two school buildings in Santa Rosa, each served by its own 60 kWh battery (122 kWh total) — providing ~12 hours of critical backup power per building. Designed as a non-export system to avoid California prevailing wage requirements. POWERFLOW delivered full scope: feasibility, critical load selection and isolation, engineering, construction management, and commissioning. Energy savings were a primary driver for the institution.

The name Surya comes from Sanskrit — the Hindu sun god, the source of light and life. That photo behind me is the Konark Sun Temple in Odisha, India, a 13th century structure built as a giant stone solar chariot aligned to the movements of the sun. It is one of the great feats of sacred geometry and astronomical design in human history. Standing in front of it, the thread between ancient reverence for solar energy and the work I do today felt undeniable. The name chose itself.
My technical path began at Santa Rosa Junior College, where a California Energy Commission grant for a campus microgrid system sparked a curiosity that never left me. I went on to earn degrees in Engineering, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Chemistry — and a graduate certification in Microgrid Design & Modeling from Arizona State University. Over the past 6+ years in the field, I've developed a track record across solar, battery storage, microgrids, VPPs, and grants — from first site visit through commissioning.
What keeps me in this work is the clients — nonprofits keeping the lights on during wildfires, schools giving students clean air and backup power, food organizations cutting their carbon footprint by 80%. I approach every project with patience, creativity, and a commitment to moving through complexity constructively. The path through plan check, utility interconnection, and grant compliance is rarely simple. That's the job, and I love it.
